Obituary of Eugene J. Ryan
Eugene “Gene” J. Ryan, 82 years of Gloucester Township NJ, passed away on December 7, 2021 in his home. Gene was born in Camden NJ to J. Eugene Ryan and Katherine M. Ryan (née Janice) on August 13, 1939. Beloved husband of Senka Ryan (née Longin). Loving father of Michelle A. Vasell, Joseph E. Ryan (Vicki). Cherished grandfather of Katherine A. Vasell, Claire E. Vasell, Emma R. Ryan and Ava K. Ryan.
He attended Holy Name grammar school in Camden, NJ and Camden Catholic High School, class of 1957. Four-year member of varsity track team and member of 1957 state championship team. He worked as a welder upon graduation at NY Shipyard in Camden, NJ where he worked on 2 famous ships; the Savannah and Kitty Hawk.
Gene served in the US Army; he served 2 years in France from 1962-1964 and was honorably discharged. He was a proud member of Local 322 Plumbers & Pipefitters where his spent his career as pipefitter. He had 50 years of continuous service. Upon retirement, Gene worked at the Chews Landing Rd. Super G in the fish department part time for several years before finally stopped working.
Gene was a long-time member of St. Lawrence Parish/Our Lady of Guadalupe and member of Knights of Columbus. At St. Lawrence School, he volunteered as the boys’ track coach in the 1970s. He volunteered as Lindenwold girls’ recreation softball coach, as well as boys’ recreation baseball coach in the 1980s.
Gene was a fanatical Notre Dame football fan, history buff, cigar enthusiast, the best storyteller and he was known for having the most beautiful and greenest lawn. He loved sports and nothing made him happier than going to watch one of his grand daughters’ games. He could always be found in the summer sitting in his special spot and loved a hot summer day. He was very active and happy to do many house projects.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Wednesday morning from 9:30AM to 10:30AM at the DANKS-HINSKI FUNERAL HOME, 125 N. WHITE HORSE PIKE, LINDENWOLD NJ 08021. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish St. Lawrence Church 135 N. White Horse Pike, Lindenwold NJ 08021. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill NJ.
